Learn the History
Learn about the history of Japanese Americans in the United States by exploring the progression of Japanese immigration, to the settlement of Japanese immigrants, to the forced removal of people of Japanese ancestry after the U.S. entrance into WWII, and finally to the experiences of Japanese Americans in the confinement sites.
Kokoro Kara Magazine
Kokoro Kara (“From Our Heart”) is our award-winning magazine. The publication includes original feature articles on Heart Mountain history, contributions by former incarcerees and their descendants, updates on the Foundation’s work, and news related to the Japanese American incarceration. Read through digital copies of past issues along with expanded online articles.
Draft Resisters at Heart Mountain
Of the ten incarceration sites for Japanese Americans, Heart Mountain was the center of resistance to the military draft in 1944 and 1945. Check out the profiles of these men, including biographies and War Relocation Authority files.

Come see our special exhibits! “We the People: Exploring American Identity” invites visitors to explore how American identity was challenged, preserved, and reimagined at Heart Mountain. “The Patriotism of Protest: Draft Resistance in Confinement” features profiles of individual resisters, exploring the human faces and stories behind the resistance.
